Pittsburgh law firm of Maiello Brungo & Maiello has been appointed solicitor of the newly-formed Central Valley School District.  The eighteen-member Board of School Directors made the appointment at its public voting meeting July 16th.

The appointment follows the first school merger of any kind in Pennsylvania since the 1982 Woodland Hills merger and the first voluntary merger within the state since the school consolidations of the 1960s.  Central Valley School District was formed on July 1, 2009 from two adjoining Beaver County Districts, the Center Area School District and the Monaca School District.  Maiello Brungo & Maiello served as the Solicitor for the Center Area School District since July 2006.  Alfred C. Maiello, MB&M’s Senior Managing Partner, led the districts through the merger process, which required finding creative solutions to problems that had not been previously addressed, such as the process of redrawing boundary lines to elect new board members, reducing the board from eighteen to nine members, dealing with multiple district superintendents and combining the labor contracts and bargaining units of the two school districts.

The members of the MB&M Public Sector Law Practice Group have numerous years experience in the area of School & Municipal Law matters.  The firm represents Pennsylvania school districts, townships, boroughs and municipal authorities in Western Pennsylvania, either as Solicitor or Special Counsel.  In an on-going effort to assist their clients in avoiding legal problems and costly litigation, they offer training to their school district clients to keep them up-to-date on the latest legal decisions affecting school district management. For their municipal clients, they provide counsel on issues ranging from labor concerns to sewer service management and construction projects.
