While the news media is replete with the Pennsylvania Governor’s declarations regarding the closing of non-life sustaining business, the same is true with the Pennsylvania Court system.  In an Order of March 18, 2020 the Supreme Court Closed all courts to the public through at least April 3, 2020 for all non-essential functions.  While the Courts are open for emergency matters of a time sensitive issue relating to public health concerns, generally, civil actions, including trials, motions and other related business, proceedings and corresponding deadlines have been suspended.  Along with the closure, the calculation of any filing deadlines has been similarly suspended.

Such a closure does not apply to the Federal Court system in Pennsylvania which is generally open and functioning on a limited basis with an emphasis on utilization of electronic communication.

Understand that these matters are extremely fluid and subject to change.  If you have any specific questions as to your litigation matters please e-mail the attorneys at Maiello, Brungo & Maiello for specific information.
